The Lisbon Treaty

Post by Diamhasla on Mon Aug 10, 2009 12:12 pm

So a few years ago, 2004 if I'm not mistaken, Europe had to vote on the introduction of a new treaty which would take power away from individual countries, making us little more than the USSE, and put a president, who the people dont actually get to vote for, in power. To me, that sounds like the perfect set up for a new facist regime and anyone who dosn't see that is either blind or in on it, but I'll get to that later.

This new treaty would have been all well and good for the bigger countries, at the expense of the smaller ones. I only know the situation with my country in detail, and we would have lost the right to referenda, lost the right to be called a Republic, forced out of neutrality, forced to use nuclear power and would only be reprisented in the EU every 15 years. This new treaty, by the way, was also self-amending, which is against current EU law.

It was voted out by France and Holland and all was well.

Until, in 2008, the Lisbon Treaty came back, and this time France and Holland weren't given a choice. Ireland was allowed to vote, but only because it says in our constitution that we have to. Despite the pressure from politicians, it was voted out yet again, and that should have been the end of it.

But it wasn't. Sarkozy came along and told us to do it again until we get it right.

Come October, and with no reason to doubt the previous results (besides the fact that they weren't good enough), Ireland will have to vote on the Lisbon Treaty again. And we'll vote yes this time because we're good little sheep and we do what we're told.

We will lose our right to have referenda
Europe will run by a president that we dont get to vote for
We will lose are right to control our own taxes, wages, ect.
We will be obliged to accept nuclear power
We will lose our right to neutralty as the Treaty contains a "mutual defence" clause
We will lose the power to block new EU laws we don't want in more than 30 areas, including foreign affairs
The voting power of the smaller countries will be more than halved while the power of the larger countries will be more than doubled
Power will be centralised in Brussels
There will be further privatisation of healthcare and education
We will be obliged to spend more on defence
According to "Article 48", the Treaty is self amending, which is against current EU law because it means we don't get a say in whether it is changed or not

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but this is any aspiring dictator's dream. If this gets in, I'm out.

[end rant]

You need to get ahold of some of the fay and see if they can't use some great power with which to keep your kingdom separated from the rest of them. Possibly place a magikal invisible barrier around your island or some other fairy magic.

I'd vote no and I'm getting everyone I know to do the same, but the vast majority of people in this country have a terrible habit of doing what we're told. Sure, most of the politicians supporting the Treaty admitted that they'd never actually read it.

Turning Europe into the USE, just like this here old USA.

I was thinking more of the USSE, as in the USSR. Though I guess that wouls be the UESR...

they try to turn EU into a real federation slowly one treaty at a time... first they opened up the borders for trade, then for work and education. after that it was the money. with the Lisbon treaty did not only discuss a EU president but also an EU army and a EU federal police force. what i've said all along is getting pretty obvious now: EU wants to become a 2nd western superstate to rival USA

Do any of you have the EHIC Card that they started making 5 years ago... for when your travelling abroad in Europe?

(European Health Insurance Card)

Also, here's a report on the European Parliament's first session-

i don't know if mines still up to date but yeah i've had 2 made so far...
never had to used one though... as a matter of fact you basically only have to have id or passport when you fly in Europe, and even then you just flash it and walk on trough. if just all those idiots in southern and eastern Europe could learn English, it would almost be like you never left home, thats how it is now with the bridge between my town and Copenhagen, you step on the train and 30 min later you are in a different country but everyone looks the same, you didn't have to show ID or passport and you understand what people say.
