And jonesin for Rockband 2
but other than that I prefer
1. RPG's (baldurs gate, neverwinter nights, etc)
2. Sports games (football mostly)
3. Platformers (rachet and clank, Blasto etc)
4. Simulation games (racing sims, airplane sims IE ace combat,gt4)

I still play lots of old x-box games as well. I like that they are inexpensive.

Re: Video Games
I have decided that I do not like Battlefield: Bad Company.
Fallout 3 will rule mightily, as will Dead Space and Fable 2. I'm also interested in Far Cry 2 and Fear 2, but they're further down my list.
Oh, and Super Mario Galaxy is AMAZING.

Re: Video Games
Dead Space would be fun too watch, but since I live alone.. I'd get too scared playing that alone.. in my house... with all these monsters creeping up on me at any time... haha.

But playing it in the dark, with the volume up, is the best way to experience those kinds of games!
I'm an old hand at horror games, so I'm pretty desensitized. Bioshock isn't even doing that much for me. Everyone's been saying Dead Space is going to be REALLY REALLY FREAKY, though, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Even though it might be a while before I get it, since my wife has her heart set on getting Fable 2 and our game budget is pretty limited.

Re: Video Games
I played the first one, and it was ok. But I wasn't that into it. Too linear. Oblivion set the bar too high I think for Rpg's in my mind. If you can't wander about the countryside, in any direction and off of roads... it ain't worth playing.
Re: Video Games
d00d, this one is almost completely different, at least so far. The world is way more open than the original, and a LOT larger. I've only played it for a couple hours, and I've already traversed an area that's at least as large as the ENTIRE original game, if not larger... and I haven't even scratched the surface. There is SO MUCH to see and do. I worked in a town as a blacksmith (that's a mad easy way to make money, btw) for a couple days, and now I'm sort of leisurely exploring the countryside, pwning bandits and giant bugs with my trusty longsword and semi-automatic pistol.
I loved Oblivion as well (though not as much as my wife does... srsly, she's easily logged over 300 total hours in that game), but there was quite a bit of stuff in it that could have used some tweaking.

Re: Video Games
Yea, i agree that Oblivion could have been made better, and good to hear that Fable is way deeper this time around, i figured it would be though with that much more power involved in the 360 format.
Re: Video Games
Got Dead Space today. Will report back when I've had a chance to play it.

Re: Video Games
Okay, I can now say that without a doubt, Dead Space is the scariest game I've ever played. I don't say this lightly, I've been playing horror games for several years... this is definitely the best of them.
The game does a really good job of conveying that the ship you're on used to be functional, working, and at least fairly clean... of course when you get there, everything is filthy, dark, malfunctioning, and spattered with blood and putrescence. You also get the idea that even before the infestation, the ship was not all sweetness 'n light. Seeing wall-to-wall tanks of kicking, squirming fetuses waiting to be harvested for organic prosthetics proves that amply.
The monsters are just... disgusting. The worst thing is the clear remnants of human anatomy apparent in them, even after they've basically been turned inside out and reconstituted into monsters. They're more than just generic "space zombies"... they're twisted, ripped, rotting parodies of the human form. The way they move... ugh.
Your character is obviously ill-prepared to handle such situations. His movements and actions aren't those of a trained soldier- he's a frightened, desperate civilian, and it really shows. Melee attacks aren't smooth or well-executed, they're frantic and unwieldy flailing. You really get a sense of desperation, that your guy is fighting for his life.
...and all this is just my first impression after a few hours of play. My friend was hanging out with me while I played, so I don't think the game had as much of an effect on me as it could've, but like I said- it was definitely scarier than any other horror game I've ever seen. I'm looking forward to playing it alone.
A selection of some of the things uttered by yours truly while playing-
"Wait, what was that sound? I did not like that sound."
"O God... look at how they're slithering..."
"ARRRGGH (a string of curses) GETITOFFMEGETITOFFMEGETITOFFME"
"And *STOMP* stay *STOMP* down! *STOMP*"
"What are those little leech things... O (bleep) GETOFFGETOFFGETOFFGETOFF"
heh.

Re: Video Games
Well, you don't necessarily have to, but chopping off limbs gets the job done a lot quicker, plus it cripples 'em pretty severely. Knock off a leg and they'll fall over (they'll probably just start crawling anyway, but it buys you some time), knock off an arm and that's one less arm they have to slash at you with, knock off the head and you'll either kill or blind them (sometimes decapitations are one-shot kills, sometimes not). When they're on the ground, I've found that the best thing for it is often, though not always, to run up and stomp, stomp, STOMP 'em into paste. They DO NOT get up from that.
Dude, you have to play this game.
